CuervoCon VI will be March 28,29,30 2003
CuervoCon is a sometimes annual event involving, in no particular order:
- computers/drinking/security/telephony/drinking/guns/drinking
- Forays into Mexico, and strange Mexican pseudo townships.
- Taking over local bars.
- Strange events in odd places that are best not spoken of.
You never know what will happen - it's sometimes shocking, and always interesting.
This year, CuervoCon will be more of the same, with perhaps a greater
emphasis on technical subjects (ranging from PCS to firearms) and no
misguided attempts to schedule events on Sunday.
If you have not attended before, it will be a ... unique experience for
you. If you have attended before, we look forward to seeing you again.
Location:
Rio Grande Plaza Hotel, Laredo TX (map) (formerly the Laredo Howard Johnson)
Room rates: $59/night, with each room accomodating up to four people.
You must state you are with the "Denver 303" group to receive this discounted rate.
For mapquest, etc., the address is 1 South Main Avenue, Laredo, TX 78040 US.
Try not to mention "CuervoCon" or "CC2K" to any hotel staff. Further, please be
discreet with firearms cases and paraphernelia - we have no idea how many
employees were held over from the previous management, so it would be best not
to remind them of the things that happened in 2000.
Conference:
We will be meeting in the basement conference room, the same location
as CuervoCon IV in 2000.
Unlike other years, we will not be scheduling events on any day other than Saturday.
In addition to the technical talks (which will be posted shortly) we will have the
standard CuervoCon events: Hacker Jeopardy, How much can you drink ?, etc.
There will also be a panel discussion.
Conference talks will be more technical in nature this year.
Travel:
San Antonio would be the best city to fly into, if you are flying. There will
most likely be at least 2-3 caravans driving from San Antonio on Thursday
night or Friday morning.
Preparation:
Even those not slated to speak/demonstrate are encouraged to bring any equipment,
documents, or other interesting items.
Be prepared with multiple forms of ID - a passport is good, but at least have
your drivers license with you for crossing the border. Further, it is advised
that you stay with the group and defer to those that have made multiple trips
into Nuevo Laredo and "Boys Town". CuervoCon attendees have, in the past, been
kidnapped and beaten by locals. No, we aren't kidding.
Scheduled Events:
Friday, March 28:
- Meet in hotel bar / lobby for border crossing #1 - we will leave at 9 PM SHARP.
Saturday, March 29:
- Conference room opens for informal gathering and demonstrations, etc. at 11 AM
- Conference convenes in basement conference room at 1 PM, and will last until
7 PM, the last event being Hacker Jeopardy.
- How much can you drink? will be held in a guest room at 9 PM
- Meet in hotel bar / lobby for border crossing #2 - we will leave at 10 PM SHARP
Sunday, March 30:
- Lunch gathering at hotel bar (if we are still allowed to enter) at NOON
A detailed list of events and speakers for Saturday during the conference will be
posted soon -> here.
Please contact: john@kozubik.com for further details, especially if you are interested in speaking.
