Sent from: Stefan Wray And now for something on the lighter side.......... Hey micropower radio fans, What about a Hack the FCC Contest? The first person or persons to hack into the FCC web site and write "FREE SPEECH NOT CORPORATE SPEECH" all over the web site wins a prize! Even if no one follows through with it, the gimmick is likely to get media attention. The logic of the action would be: If the FCC is going to interfere with the micropower radio movements ability to communicate, then the micropower radio movement will interfere with the FCC's ability to communicate. An eye for an eye. . . Micropower radio stations all across the country could issue local news releases announcing the contest. Contest ads could be place in alternative weeklies and in the back of computer magazines. And, of course, the contest could be announced on the radio! The "prize" would have to be worked out. And if it were a monetary prize, some sort of off-shore payment scheme might avoid culpability here at home. A European free radio group could handle the payment. (Free trip to Amsterdam to hang out in the cafes where you-know-what is sold!) Or simply acheiving notoriety for the prize winner could be the prize. Even if there is no prize, some hackers might just get a thrill out of the challenge and the feeling that their hacking capabilities were going to good use. There are a lot of teenage hackers out there who could use a little direction and guidance from adults. Let's provide it to them by a) validating hacking as a positive alternative lifestyle (so they don't get demoralized and start working in corporate network security) and b) giving them a list of "enemy" targets. We'll put the FCC at the top of the list. This sort of yippie-esque tactic is worth considering. What do people think? I'm sure there are nay-sayers, so let's hear from you first.... - Stefan Wray PS. Part of this is tongue-in-cheek, and part isn't. That's for you to decide. PPS. Hackers are our friends. PPPS. I am not a hacker. But if I could hack, I would hack.
