============================================================================== Phile 1.14 of 1.14 PABX ,The SL-1ST systems ------------------------ By: Red Knight P/HUN The Northern Telecom has introduced a new PABX targeted for the market with plenty of room for growth amongest the model itself and then through the entire Meridian family itself. The new announced Meridian SL-1ST is a 32 to 400 line PABX that all the unique amd more feature which was available on the larger systems.(The SL-1) which includes intergrated voice and data,DTI (Digital Trunk Interface),RPE (Remote Peripheral Equipment,PTE (Packet Transport Equipment) and offcourse ACD ( Automatic call distribution). The SL-1ST consists of a high capacity processing unit that gives it its unique features. A self contained distribution frame is built into the SL-1ST cabinet, providing a compact installation, without the need for additional wall space. Northern claims 35 percent reduction and around 45 percent reduction in installation material due to the modular cabinet designed with the self-contained distribution frame and factory programmed of system software. The SL-1ST provide a one-two-three-tier configurations.A single tier SL-1ST .A single tier SL-1ST system is 32 inches inches high, with a capacity range from 32 to approx- imately 80 line and a second tier increases it to 240 lines and adds only 17 inches,in height.A third tier goes to 400 lines and add 17 inches for the total height. We currently have one the most recent a 600 lines. The Meridian SL-1ST commonality of PABX hardware with other Meridian SL-1 system types and complete commonality of sotware and propriety station equipment. The SL-1ST is small but has great networking capablities that makes it suitable for applications with larger corporate networks. For eg.,The standard T1 digital transmissions for voice or data over most trunks types are provided by the Meridian DTI feature. The RPE equipment can be located in a 70 miles locus from the main SL-1ST and the SL-1ST can be interagated into a network with other Meridian SL-1 systems. The SL-1 also offers all of the data communication capabilites available in the Northern Telecom portfolio of LANSTAR data services, including its local area network (LAN),LANSTAR PC, Other data capabilites include a Computer to PABX Interface (CPI) which provides a 24 channel Interface of IBM 3270 emulation, with protocol convertion and also subsystem access to IBM system 34,36,38.The new SL-1ST also has options for connectivity to Apple,Digital Equipment Co., Data General,Hewlett Packard,Prime,Unisys and Wang. In keeping with its 1982 announcement of its Open Protocol Enchanced Netowrks (OPEN) World program,Northern Telecom is amking available to other equipment manufacturers the protocols used with companies switching systems. The pricing of a Sl-1ST is around 650 dollars per line installed. During the 2 past year many companies have produced a new PABX sytem. - In June 1986 Rolm announced a digital PABX/hybrid/key system that supports 144 stations and 46 trunks. - AT&T followed in with there System 25 a Digital PABX that has a maximum of 400 stations and 104 trunks. - In september two more PABX were introduced the Siemens Saturn 1 with consisted of 100 lines. The Mitel also was out SX-200 which had 480 ports - Tompson-CSF's Opus PBX with capacity to hold 120 stations and 28 trunks - Solid state systems recently introduced the SR244. The SL-1ST stands up to all of the above.I forget to metion the SL-1 S had 30 to 140 lines and the SL-1S has 80 to 400 lines.
