Given below are instructions on converting the T-599D from belt drive to chain drive. A kit of parts is available from TRIO-KENWOOD. We estimate the conversion will take about l 1/2 hours . Remove top and bottom covers. Remove covers from final unit and bottom of coil pack. Remove DRIVE and LOAD shafts by loosening screws on collars and pulleys. Remove all old belts. Remove variable drive cap nearest final. It is soldered in 5 places. Unsolder from the bottom. Remove the pulleys from 2 variable drive caps and replace with the new gears supplied, teeth toward rear. On the bottom of the set remove the 2 screws from the small UC-3001-J board and gently Pull it up and away to get clearance. Remove 3 screws from the load capacitor. Remove 2 screws from the bracket holding the plate tuning capacitor. Remove plate tune pulley. Gently pull the front of the shaft upwards to get clearance to replace pulley with new gear. (Teeth towards front of set). Hook together with the spring link supplied. Be sure to tighten hooks with long nose pliers. Install 29 links of chain on the load capacitor. Install loading and plate tuning capacitor in original position, re-install UC-3001-J board. Install loading shaft with new gear, (teeth near front). Align with chain previously installed. Tighten all gear and collar screws. Check for full rotation of load capacitor. Make sure spring link clears for full rotation. In the same manner as before make 2 chains 22 links long. Install spring clips. Install drive shaft. Make sure to include plastic collar, 2 aluminum collars, 2 new gears; teeth toward rear, and 2 chains- 22 links. Align with previously installed drive gears. Check for clearance and that shaft does not bind on front panel. Make sure there is full rotation. Replace the tubes and all covers. Check for proper loading on all bands. Replace top and bottom covers.
