I'm sure most of you know the MSDN (M$ developer network) stuff, where you get all the software from M$ but as crippeled releases (that's what they tell you). For example: The NT-Server can only handle 10 IP connects, the Exchange-Server can only support 10 people and can't be upgraded etc. I'm sure it's not very hard to remove these barriers and make the stuff from the MSDN fully functional and upgrade-able :-)) The same thing applies to NT workstation, I have some postings about how to convert a workstation into a server. Is there anybody interested in working on such a project? So long... ARTICLES: -----#1------------------------------------------------- Subject: file shredder Hello, file shredder was warezly released on 20 June - the info file is below. If someone has a FTP site where I can put it and enough people want it, tell me. WAFNA >>>>>>>>>>> nfo file: Features: When you "delete" a file in a Windows operating environment, =BA =BA it is usually because you no longer need that file, do not want to keep =BA =BA it, or do not want anyone else to see it. If you think that by deleting =BA =BA the file, the data is gone, think again. What actually happens when you =BA =BA use the Delete function is that you tell Windows to change the first =BA =BA character of the filename. This lets the computer know that it can use =BA =BA the space being occupied by the deleted file. The problem is that, until =BA =BA the computer actually writes to that space, (i.e. writes over the file) =BA =BA that deleted file can be recovered using any number of commercial and free=BA =BA software packages. =BA =BA Shredder solves this problem by immediately overwriting deleted =BA =BA files so they cannot be recovered. Shredder overwrites information =BA =BA multiple times, vexing even the most sophisticated means of data recovery.=BA =BA But what really makes Shredder unique is its ability to work real-time =BA =BA within Windows, capturing and shredding the host of temporary and backup =BA =BA files created then deleted (unknown to the user) by Windows or your =BA =BA software applications. =BA =BA Shredder provides a Panic System that allows the user to designate =BA =BA certain directories and files as priorities, and to create a keystroke =BA =BA system to immediately shred those files in the event of sudden intrusion. =BA =BA Shredder can be used on all Windows 95 Releases. It supports FAT12, =BA =BA FAT16, and newer FAT32 file systems. CAUTION: SHREDDER HAS NOT BEEN =BA =BA VALIDATED WITH COMPRESSED DRIVES. =BA =BA Shredder has preset Security Levels: Here are our views on the =BA =BA threats faced at each of the four preset levels and what Shredder does to =BA =BA eliminate the threat: =BA =BA * Level 1 will overwrite data once. It will protect against basic =BA =BA undelete software and the use of sector editors (software tools that =BA =BA either read the disk directly or through the operating system.) Sector =BA =BA editors can find or read data that has been left on the disk, even after =BA =BA much of the file has been overwritten. They can also read the Swap file =BA =BA (Win386.swp), which can potentially hold all of the information that has =BA =BA been processed during a session, including passwords, encrypted files, =BA =BA etc. Level 1 will overwrite the Swap file, which is essential to secure =BA =BA data disposal. =BA =BA * Level 2 provides the level of security required by DoD 5220.22-M, =BA =BA the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (pgs. 8-3-5 and =BA =BA 8-3-6, subparagraphs c, d, e, f and h) - January 1995, for clearing and =BA =BA sanitizing files from a computer's memory. This requires an overwrite =BA =BA with a reciprocal (two passes), one overwrite with a random character, and=BA =BA one overwrite with a fixed character for verification purposes over =BA =BAaddressable spaces. =BA =BA = * Level 3 defeats the magnetic force-scanning tunneling microscope =BA =BA that can actually sense underlying magnetic layers on a hard drive. =BA =BA Shredder handles this by overwriting files with five layers of zeroes and =BA =BA one layer of fixed characters for verification purposes to overcome =BA =BA magnetic coercivity and defeat magnetic sensors. =BA =BA * Level 4 defeats electron microscopes with spin detectors. =BA =BA The goal here is to overwrite so many times that the deviation in writing =BA =BA patterns will effectively obliterate even marginal traces of information. =BA =BA An electron microscope senses magnetic effects in extremely tiny sectors. =BA =BA It can see characters that have not been entirely overwritten by the write=BA =BA head. Deviations of 1/1000 of a millimeter do not affect the ability of =BA =BA the disk head to read data, but do leave enough space for the electron =BA =BA microscope to glimpse part of a prior character. The solution is to take =BA =BA advantage of the deviation of the write head by overwriting the files with=BA =BA 1 zero, 4 random characters, 2 reciprocal characters (4 overwrites) and =BA =BA one fixed character for verification. =BA =BA =BA =BA Although you probably have never heard of this program before, you =BA =BA have probably heard of programs that do this sort of thing. This is a =BA =BA program that anyone who has anything they don't want anyone to find ever =BA =BA again should want whether that would be a warez pirate, hacker, phreaker, =BA =BA carder, or business man. This should be a standard program to add to your=BA =BA protective arsenal right after anti-virus software and nuke patchs for =BA =BA Winsock. So although right now this program is obscure, a program that =BA =BA can do what this program does should be considered one of the most =BA =BA anticipated releases of 1998. =BA =BA Make sure you read the bug report! -----#2------------------------------------------------- Subject: Anonymous remailer Kiss?
