Q. Do you make a living from your art or is this a "night job"? Yes, I've been a professional artist for 20 years. Q. What software do you use for your creations? Adobe Photoshop 5.0 Q. What is the basic configuration of the system you use for your creations? Pentium 200 with 128 megs of RAM, Matrox Millennium graphics card, and Wacom Intuos 6x8 graphics tablet. Nothing fancy. Q. Are you self taught or are there resources that you would recommend to the aspiring web artist? Yes, I'm self taught. As for the aspiring artist, I'd suggest the he or she learn to draw. Forget software, forget plugins, forget applications that generate images and lighting for you. Get a pencil and sketchpad and hone your skills at drawing. If you cannot draw, then all the software in the world will not make you an artist. The book DRAWING ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BRAIN is the best book for learning to draw. Q. What inspires you? What gets your creative juices flowing? I like beauty and detail. I love ornamentation and Renaissance art and the extraordinary detail of carvings, painting, and sculpture from that period. I'm not much into the typical underground art of skulls and evil things, although I will do them on occasion. Let me do a highly detailed framework that surrounds an image and I'm in heaven. Q. You take a lot of care in your work, how long do you spend on a piece like dragon above? It depends on the piece, but some will take 20-30+ hrs to create. The dragon image was done a little each day for about 3 weeks. The image Diana the Huntress on my site took over 30 hrs and is composed of 97 layers in Photoshop. Q. Do you program the web pages on your site also or does someone else do that for you? Yes, I do my own web work, but I'm more of an artist than web expert. I do web sites professionally, but again, my forte' is doing the graphics end. Q. What is your favorite piece that you have done? That's a difficult question to answer. My most recent is usually my favorite, but that only lasts a few days or until the next image is created. I guess Ancient Terror, the dragon image, is the favorite of many of the visitors to my site. I get more compliments on that one than anything.
