Sorry I couldn't get this to you before DEF CON 7, but here's an internal email that I acquired from BCTel/TELUS (telcos in BC and Alberta). It might be of some interest (or a laugh): "Subject: Computer hackers convention may target telecommunications companies The annual DEF CON 7 conference for computer hackers is being held this weekend in Las Vegas. One of the planned activities is a 'social engineering' competition/contest starting on Saturday, July 10 at 6 p.m. (PDT). The contest involves gathering restricted information and/or access codes into computer or telephone systems in major corporations in the United States and probably Canada. A hacker who can gain access to restricted information within any of the North American telecommunications company will score very well. Therefore, hackers may target the BC TEL and TELUS networks. Prime targets would be business office personnel, network operations centres and installation and repair dispatch centres. Employees experiencing anything unusual over the weekend should contact Corporate Security at 604 432-4300. For more information, contact Tony Sullivan, Corporate Security, 604 643-4377."
