Intel's plans to place 'ID Markers' in its upcoming line of Pentium III
processors has upset many privacy groups. These groups are now calling
for a boycott of all Intel products until Intel removes this 'feature'
from its chips.

An internet petition has been created in support of the lyrics.ch server
recently raided by Swiss authorities. The International Lyrics Server
was forcibly taken off line after allegations of copyright violations
where made by the National Music Publishers Association.

Bandits Web Site, a
Irish web site, has been pulled from Tinet's servers (an Irish ISP) for
listing Irish Radio Scanning frequencies. These frequencies have been in
public knowledge for years. For now ECAD.ORG is offering Bandit to host
the Irish Radio Scanning site on their servers as they don't want this
information to disappear.

A security vulnerability in Microsoft's Internet Information Server? Not
another one! The eEye Digital Security Team has found that the FTP
service contains a buffer overflow in the NLST command. This could be
used to DoS a remote machine and in some cases execute code remotely.

The head of Copenhagen's special computer crime unit arrested a 19-year
old student after he allegedly 'hacked' into Detective Arne Gammelgaard
personal computer. According to this article the interloper was caught
with an 'anti-virus' program. Could this possibly be the first arrest of
a Back Orifice user?

The Internet businesses in Hong Kong are pushing for a local version of
CERT, the US coordination center for computer security incidents. The
Hong Kong version of CERT will have central operational support for all
computer security incidents between vendors and users, research and
development of security tools and applications, and education and
training for organizations' in-house security teams and will promote
public awareness of security issues.

Virus found in Chinese software

A former director of the Beijing Wuyou Software Development Co., has been
accused of planting a computer virus into two sets of educational
software programs for the A-degree national computer grade examination.
The software company said it has lost more than $59,524(US) because it
had to recall all of the 16,000 copies of the product that had been
sold.
