Yesterday Steven Silberman revealed that Se7en had dupped many members
of the press in regards to his cyber vigilantism against pedophiles.
Now Adam Penenberg one of the journalists who broke the story on the
Forbes Digital Tool web site writes an open letter to the hacking
community.

A misconfigured search engine lead to thousands of patient medical
records at the University of Michigan Health System being accessible to
anyone on the net. Exposed information included names, addresses,
Social Security numbers, employment status, and treatment records. I
would like to know whose bright idea it was to put sensitive
information such as this on a internet accessible web server in the
first place. Unlike credit reports or even video rentals there is no
federal law preventing the dissemination of this information.

The group that just two months ago declared cyberwar on China and Iraq
has gone legit. Their new web site now offers web hosting and security
consulting. While there does seem to be a void of pricing and other
information on the web site their lightning fast one to three day
'external audit' looks interesting. Wonder how they are able to cram
one to three weeks worth of work into a couple of days? I guess the
real question is can you trust these cyberwarriors to audit your
systems?

Gisle Hannemyr has some interesting things to say is his deeply
researched article "Technology and Pleasure: Considering Hacking
Constructive". I have to disagree with the some of the conclusions he
has drawn from his research though.
