British Satellites Impossible to Crack

After HNN questioned the validity of a Reuters article claiming that
British Military satellites where being held for ransom by crackers,
several other news organizations are now also questioning the validity of
this claim.

major technical obstacles that must be overcome before such a feat can be

Y2K drains security budget

Federal Agencies are having a difficult time meeting the requirements of
the Federal Infrastructure Protection plan due to the draining effect
caused by Y2K on the various agencies budgets. The General Services
Administration's Office of Information Security (OIS) and the Critical
Infrastructure Assurance Office are working to get more money allocated to
security in the next budget.

Sophisticated Hacking Tools

Hacking tools are getting more and more sophisticated and as they do their
uses can be good and bad. Wired takes a look at one such tool, nMap.

An ISP in Singapore, SingNet, has had several of its users passwords
posted on a web site in the United States called SickNet. Acidgerm, the
perpetrator, claims to have many more passwords that will posted soon.
SingNet and CyberWay have blocked access to the site for their users and
have reported the incident to Singapore Computer Emergency Response Team

Sufering from delirium, mental confusion and hallucinations a 30 year old
Italian man was hospitalized after spending three days straight surfing
the web. (Ed: You must first build up your tolerance levels with
increasing exposure to the web before you can spend three days surfing.
Of course in this case the mans symptoms are probably from lack of sleep
and not web surfing.)
