I was really trying to ignore this whole mess. First a Belgium garment
manufacturer makes extremely disparaging remarks about hackers on its web
site. Then it looks like someone may have defaced their web page, then
Leander Kahney of Wired Online writes a story about it all that totally
screws up the words hacker and cracker. I am kind of surprised that the
defaced page has still not been fixed 12 hours later. This whole mess
just reeks of marketing.

A top law graduate from the National University of Taiwan was recently
arrested and is suspected of breaking into the real time pricing systems
of several brokerage houses. The individual used stolen data over the
last 12 months to sell short on several stocks and made over
$300,000(US). He is also suspected of blackmailing several brokerages who
sent out false information about various stocks for financial gain by
threatening to go public with the knowledge.

Want to know why IT executives are clueless when it comes to security
concepts? This tutorial from CIO Magazine creates confusion rather than
clarity. It would be funny, if your CIO wasn't reading it.

Well, it started off OK but this weeks Doonesbury strip seems to be going
down hill fast. Todays edition mentions "Tracing the exploit" and "ISP
number" groooaaannn. Well you can read it for your self.
Doonesbury- I still
haven't found a better link.

Are you an active duty or reserve military member or a DoD civilian
employee with a Top Secret clearance or have access to sensitive
compartmented information? Well guess what? You have to reaffirm your
commitment to protect classified information. Evidently the first time was
not good enough.
