(Burma) government was allegedly shut down Wednesday and part of
Thursday
by activists. This Register article notes that internet access in
Myanmar
is heavily controlled by the military government and is primarily
used as
a propaganda tool.

Apple Computer, a master of flashy product launches,
recently
had some of the wind taken from its sails when an anonymous person
(or
people) posted trade secrets on the net. Now the company is pursuing
a
lawsuit against those who allegedly preempted (by months, not days)
Apple's unveiling of the new Power Mac G4.

The Canadian youth known as Mafia Boy pleaded not guilty
Thursday to the DOS attacks that crippled several high-visibility
web
sites earlier this year. Concurrently, the prosecution leveled an
additional 64 charges against accused vandal. Citing substantial
revenue
losses and damage to computer equipment on the part of the victims,
the
prosecution is seeking a deterrent to future attacks from the
verdict and
sentencing.

Wednesday the FBI was sued by the Electronic Privacy
Information Center (EPIC) for access to Carnivore's code. The judge
in the
case gave the FBI 10 days to provide the information, an expedited
process
under the Freedom of Information Act.

In-Q-Tel, a nonprofit technology
incubator formed by the CIA, says that government law enforcement
officials need better forensic analysis tools if they're going to
keep up
with the bad guys. Citing a scarcity of forensic tools for Unix or
mainframes, the report expresses concerns that the quality of
evidence
gathered currently may not hold up in court.
