In an attempt to test the security of many firewalls Federal Computer Week hired several "security companies" to try to break through them. Most of the firewalls held up beautifully. Which I find pretty amazing. I am surprised that the "security experts" at Deloitte and Touche, Ernst & Young and Security Design International Inc. could not do much better than simple DoS attacks.

Scientific American actually gets it right. "The software equivalents of
crowbars and lock picks are available on-line. Hackers don't need to be
programmers these days any more than burglars need to be architects."

The Child Online Protection Act (CDA II) (H.R. 3783) requires web admins to limit access to
material considered 'harmful to minors'. The bill has passed the full Commerce Committee and is on its way to the House. Lets hope they are do busy dealing with Monica to vote this session.
