Rootshell, the site famous for archiving exploits, was hacked Wed. Oct 28th. They seem to think they were hacked through sshd, which they were running the latest version of. More info on their home page.

  DNA tool turned into hacker spotter

A computer program used by scientists to unlock information from complex DNA strands has a new, more mundane role: detecting hackers as they try to penetrate networks. Developed at IBM's Watson Research Laboratory in New York, the computer algorithm looks for repetitive patterns in sets of data, such as a network's server logs.
