Intelligent Dictionary Generator v1.5 for Windows  A Darkfool Production (c) Copyright 1996-97

Extracts of this help file have been taken from The CodeZero E-zine. Seems fair as
they printed my article without my expressed permission.


Intelligent Dictionary Generator creates 'intelligent' dictionary files using the
password files which are needed to crack. THIS PROGRAM DOESN'T MAKE RANDOM WORDS, thats
left to Random Word Generator ;). Ok, here is how it works

This line signifies one of the lines in your passwd file

A - login name, what is typed at the login prompt.
B - ENCRYPTED password field, I will go into more detail later.
C - user ID, a user id of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 is usually a super user.
D - group ID, a group id of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, is usually super user.
E - The name of the user in the "real world".
F - The users home directory, where he starts off after login.
G - The shell that the user uses.


As shown, each section has its own meaning, the important bit is section E, the name of
the user in "real world". What IDG does is get this part of the file and then use it in 
a new file in the form of :-

You might be thinking nobody uses their name as their password, but you will be surpised,
I have had success with servers with this program. The benefit of this program is that if 
you have a large password file, you can use the words created in one passwd file to crack 
another. 


PLEASE NOTE!

Make sure you modify your passwd file to make sure it doesn't include :: at any point, usually
the first few records will look like this :-


nobody:*:65534:65534::/:
daemon:*:1:1::/:
sys:*:2:2::/:/bin/csh
bin:*:3:3::/bin:
uucp:*:4:8::/var/spool/uucppublic:
news:*:6:6::/var/spool/news:/bin/csh

sync::1:1::/:/bin/sync


Make sure you remove the whole record if :: appears at any stage. IDG will prompt if it finds a :: entry and will tell you which line it is on.

DO NOT remove any : in any passwd lines. IDG works by finding the beginning and end of the : sections, a missing one will produce a deformed dictionary file.

IF THE PROGRESS INDICATOR STOPS SPINNING AND THE PROGRAM DOESN'T FINISH IT PRESS CTRL-BREAK TWICE AND ERROR HAS OCCURED AND YOUR HARD DRIVE MIGHT BE FILLING UP WITH A LOADA RUBBISH. This is rare and only ever happened to me in programming stages.

IDG makes a temporary file called $$dict.pip in the directory which idg is run. It will be overwritten whenever idg is used. 


THE PROGRAM

1. Execute idg.exe
2. At Input>   type the path and name of passwd file i.e e:\passwd.  
3. Press Return
4. At Output>  type the path and name of the output you want i.e e:\dict.txt
5. Press Return
6. At Continue ?>  type Yes or No
7. Press Return

A 2049 login passwd file will produce approx. 12316 intelligent dictionary entrys in 3mins 50 secs on pentinum pro 200Mhz, verified 10 logins using john the ripper.
