Went To A Trial
The Edmonton police and Crown decided the material on this site
warranted charges of promoting hatred via the Internet, marking the
first time Canada's anti-hate laws had been used in this way. In
another first, the case was heard by a jury rather than a judge, and
he was found guilty.

He was sentenced to 16 months in jail and three years' probation
and his computer equipment was confiscated -- the most significant
sentence ever handed down in a hate-crime case in Canada.
Two Levels Of Canadian Justice
Kevin Haas,
a Canadian Jew, was arrested under its Hate Crime Law and tried
in court, for putting up signs on a college campus that said,
among other things, "Death to Muslims." He threatened Muslims,
handed out fliers saying "Kill Infidels". In
total, there were 15 incidents attributed to him.
The judge sentenced him to100 hrs of
community service, and he had to write a letter of apology to
the Muslim community.
