1080E

ELECTRONIC/MODULAR TELEPHONE

TEST ACCESSORY

The 1080E provides easy access to any pair combination of 2, 4, 6 or 8 wire telephone systems. Various accessories can be connected to the unit either via the SCOPE/AMP socket or METER test points.

OPERATION: Unplug the telephone from the wall or jack end and plug it into the appropriate jack at the rear of the 1080E. Plug the 1080E into the socket from which the telephone was removed. Pick up the handset to make sure the telephone is functioning normally.  Replace the handset. The sockets at the rear of the unit are wired in parallel therefore, the two wires of a two-wire system will appear at the middle of the selector switch or, positions 4 & 5.  A four-wire system appears at switch positions 3, 4, 5 & 6; six wire systems 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7. 8 wire systems use all switch positions.

To measure a two-wire system use 4, 5 or the reverse 5, 4. Tests must be made with the switches on different positions. Use every possible pair combination of 4, 6 and 8 wire systems in both forward and reverse.

A 1059 Preamplifier, SCD-5 (used as a carrier current detector) or  oscilloscope may be plugged into the SCOPE/AMP jack. Virtually any multimeter, either analog or digital, may be plugged into the METER jack.

The LOOP CURRENT switch adds a known resistance of 100 ohms across the line pair under test. Use this feature cautiously. Voltage can be measured across this resistor and readily converted into current using Ohms law.
