RACAL INSTRUMENTS LTD

PRELIMINARY RELEASE NOTE

Digital Radio Product Support Group

6111 software version 3.02G

This software version is for users of Ericsson BTSs only. This software can be used to
configure the semi permanent links in the TRI, after which the BTS may be tested in the
normal way.

There is no requirement for a connection to a BSC.
There is no requirement for a Line Interface Test Adaptor (LIFTA card).

SOFTWARE INSTALLATION:

Create a new directory on your PC, e.g. C:\TRI
Install the software to this directory in the usual way i.e.
A:> INSTALL C:\TRI

After installation, you must create three sub-directories under your main MMI directory.
These directories are listed on the release disk.

This directory structure and the files within each directory must be copied exactly
from the release disk. It is best to use the XCOPY DOS command with the
delimiter /S to ensure that the directory structure remains the same.

PREPARATION FOR USE:

Setting up the A-bis Mapping Table:

Please refer to the attached notes for details of A-bis mapping requirements.

Connections:

The A-bis connectors on the test set may be connected to either the two BNC connectors
on top of the BTS cabinet, or directly to the ETB0 card in place of the BSC connection.

Testing:

The CONFIGURE TRI test should then be selected from the Functional Test Menu.
The parameters for the CONFIGURE TRI test are as follows:

Download TRI code (for this release - must be YES)
Set EMRP address (for this release - set to 0)

If the red LED beneath the EMRP address header on the TRI is not flashing, the TRI
should be reset before testing is started.

NOTES ON USING THE TRI CONTROL SOFTWARE - (ref. 2410)

Note that the TRI control software will only be accessible if the Enhanced A-bis
Capability (Option 57) is fitted and the TRI software (Option 225) is enabled in the
6111/5. For further information please consult the Digital Radio Support Group.

Setting up of the A-bis mapping table

Before the TRI is configured, it is necessary to set up the A-bis Mapping table to
provide the necessary information to the 6111 to set up the TRI Semi-permanent
connections. This should be performed as detailed below.

The A-bis mapping table should be set up for all the transceivers to be tested in the
BTS. This avoids having to re-run the Configure TRI test each time a new transceiver
is to be tested.

The TEIs for the BCF (TGC) and each transceiver (TRX) should be set up in the
normal way.

The signalling timeslots for the transceivers (TRXs) should be selected as required to
use a different timeslot for each TRX. The signalling timeslot for the BCF should be
set to be the same as that for the first transceiver to be tested.

The traffic timeslots should be selected as required to use two different slots for each
transceiver. The TRI should then be configured using the Configure TRI test.

Note that TRX 1, 2, 3 and 4 are automatically mapped by the 6111 in the TRI to 'Cell
1' - RILT card 9(RTT 1).

In the same way TRX 5, 6, 7 and 8 are mapped to 'Cell 2' - RILT 8, (RTT 2) etc.
Thus if the BTS is set up to be 'Cell 3' using RILT card 7, (RTT 3) then TRX
identifiers numbers 9 to 12 should be used in the A-bis mapping table.

Following testing on one transceiver, this transceiver should be reset, using the Reset
BTS test. Then the signalling slot for the BCF in the A-bis mapping table should be
changed to that of the next transceiver to be tested and the Configure BTS test should
be run with the TRX identifier also changed to that of the next transceiver to be tested.
Testing on the next transceiver can then be performed, and so on.

An example is given below of the A-bis mapping table for testing the second
transceiver of 'Cell 2'. (TRX 6)

	TEI	Signalling
Slot	Traffic	Slots
BCF	58	5
TRX 5	0	2	3	4
TRX 6	1	5	6	7
TRX 7	2	8	9	10
TRX 8	3	11	12	13

Note that changes to simplify the above procedure are being considered for future
software releases.

Setting the PC code path for the TRI software

For TRI code download the MMI requires the files to be downloaded to be located in
the directory structure shown below:

	    XXXXXX

		|____	REPER
		| |___	EMRP
		| emgfdr
		| reper
		| teetr
		|
		|
		|____	RICSR
		| |___	EMRP
		| ricsr
		| riltr
		|
		|____	RITSR
				|___	EMRP
					   ritsr

The top level directory XXXXXX must be specified in the TRI Information menu
option from the Parameters menu.

The files are in DOS binary format - as provided by Ericsson.

Connections to the TRI

Connections to and from the 6111/5 should be made to the ETBO card (RILT card 0)
as this is the only ETB card supported at present.

Connections to and from the BTS should be made to the appropriate RTT card in the
normal way.

Configuring the TRI

Select Configure TRI from the Tests/Functional Tests menu.

Select Code Download - YES
Set the EMRP value which has been strapped in the TRI - (usually 0)

Note that configuring a TRI which already has code downloaded is not yet available.

Testing can then continue in the normal way, by running the configure BTS test.
