Open Stacks Book Search Service. Open Stacks provides a book search service which offers to find and deliver rare, antiquarian, out-of-print, and just plain hard-to-find books. This service is offered to you without charge if: no book is found, a found book is unacceptable because it is the wrong edition, printing, price, etc., a found book is in unacceptable physical condition. A fee is charged only if an acceptable book is found and you place an order for it. The fee, which includes delivery via USPS book rate mail, will be dependent upon the the amount and nature of communications between Open Stacks, you the customer, and the offering dealer(s). Under ordinary circumstances the fee is $12.50/book. Virtual WordsWorth. For books that are no longer in print we offer an out of print service. The cost for the search is $3.00 per title. We place an ad in a national trade magazine to used bookseller/book dealers and out of print booksellers. They get in touch with us if they have the title. They provide information as to the condition of the book, and how much they want for it. We contact you with this information and you decide if you would like to get the book. This process takes about six to eight weeks and is about 60% successful.
