Proclamation

TO ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS SHALL COME--GREETINGS:

WHEREAS, Author T. Casey Brennan's one-person crusade to change the comic book industry to de-glamorize smoking among young people has opened an important question by addressing one of the many influences which affect children; and

WHEREAS, T. Casey Brennan, a former writer of comic book strips, is well aware of the subtle message given to young people when their heroes are smokers; and

WHEREAS, The attention directed to this campaign has had positive effects, as several of the most prominent comic strips series and characters have forsaken smoking. Indeed, some of these works have gone so far as to take up the message against smoking as part of the story line as a result of the leadership and activism of Casey Brennan; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Brennan was included in the current Who's Who in the Midwest and was recently selected for Who's Who in the World; and

WHEREAS, It is with shared concern over the issue of helping young people make a decision not to smoke that I applaud the efforts of Mr. T. Casey Brennan;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Bill Clinton, Governor of the State of Arkansas, do hereby proclaim the month of January 1990 as

T. CASEY BRENNAN MONTH

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of Arkansas to be affixed at the Capitol in Little Rock on this 22nd day of December in the year of our Lord nineteen hundred eighty-nine.
