Obama's Strategy Of Delays |
An attorney
handling one of the many lawsuits challenging Barack Obama's eligibility
to occupy the Oval Office is urging a court to deny a demand from a
lawyer for the president for still more time to answer simple questions
such as whether Obama was born in Hawaii, citing the dangers of having
an president many identify as a "usurper" in office.
"Whether or
not the president of the United States is eligible for the office he
currently occupies is of utmost national important," wrote attorney
Mario Apuzzo of New Jersey in a motion opposing Obama's request for more
time.
"Every passing day Mr. Obama takes executive action, that
significantly impacts on the lives of Americans," he continued.
"It can be argued that Mr. Obama is currently the most powerful human
being on the planet. He could conceivably end all life on earth in a
single day. Every executive action that Mr. Obama takes impacts not only
the plaintiffs but also every other American," he said in the legal
document submitted in the court case yesterday.
Apuzzo filed his
lawsuit in January on behalf of Charles F. Kerchner Jr., Lowell T.
Patterson, Darrell James Lenormand and Donald H. Nelson Jr.
The
action names as defendants Barack Hussein Obama II, the U.S., Congress,
the Senate, House of Representatives and former Vice President Dick
Cheney along with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Apuzzo told
WND
that while it may be good strategy on the part of a defense lawyer for
Obama to delay answering such questions as long as possible, the
American people also are impacted by the case every day in which there
is not a resolution.
He outlines in the document that while
ordinary court rules require answers to such lawsuits within 60 days, in
this case the actions of the defense lawyer probably will generate a
delay of 124 days -- or more -- for Obama's answers.
Apuzzo said the first issue is simple: Was Obama born in Hawaii as he has said? The second question seeking a definition of "natural born" citizen is
more complicated.
WND reported earlier on the request submitted
by Ralph Marra Jr., the acting U.S. attorney, and Elizabeth Pascal, the
assistant U.S. attorney in New Jersey, that explains that the Department
of Justice, operating under Obama appointee Attorney General Eric
Holder, still is working on a decision on representation for the
defendants.
"The failure to file an answer, move, or to
otherwise respond before the expiration of the time specified is not the
result of any neglect on any of the Defendants' parts," the court filing
said.
"Representation decisions are made by a specialized group
of individuals in the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. In order
to provide a fair opportunity for the Department to review this matter
and to complete the representation determinations, Defendants
respectfully request an extension of twenty (20) days from the date of
this Order in which to answer, move, or otherwise respond," the court
filing said.

Obama's New Rules |
Some soccer moms will have
to give up hulking SUVs. Carpenters will still haul materials around in
pickup trucks, but they will cost more. Nearly everybody else will drive
smaller cars, and more of them will run on electricity. The higher
mileage and emissions standards set by the Obama administration on
Tuesday, which begin to take effect in 2012 and are to be achieved by
2016, will transform the American car and truck fleet.
The new
rules would bring new cars and trucks sold in the United States to an
average of 35.5 miles per gallon, about 10 mpg more than today's
standards. Passenger cars will be required to get 39 mpg, light trucks
30 mpg.
That means cars and trucks on American roads will have to
become smaller, lighter and more efficient.
Eric Fedewa, vice
president of global powertrain forecasting for the auto consulting firm
CSM Worldwide in Northville, Mich., said the changes will make pickup
trucks so much more expensive that they will be used almost exclusively
for work.
And instead of a minivan or SUV, more parents will haul
their families in much smaller vehicles with three rows of seats --
something more like the Mazda 5 small van, he said. The Mazda 5 gets
about 28 mpg on the highway.
"I think what you'll see is a lot
more creativity in interior packaging," Fedewa said. "You'll get more
rows of seats where you traditionally had cargo space."
Update: With a stroke of the pen, Barack Obama has imposed
higher fuel-economy standards on the American auto industry. Those
standards can only be met by making the average car smaller and lighter
than consumers prefer. The inevitable result is that thousands of
innocent Americans, possibly tens of thousands, will die painful and
sometimes fiery deaths, while many thousands more will be seriously
injured. This prospect apparently gave Obama no pause whatsoever.
He has never so much as hinted that he sees a moral dimension in the
trade-off between human life and reduced carbon emissions.
On the
other hand, Obama sees the brief and physically harmless discomfort of
three terrorists as posing a moral crisis of almost unparalleled
dimension, necessitating endless apology and hand-wringing. The
contrast in Obama's priorities is striking, to say the least. I
would submit that this is what happens when you substitute preening for
intelligent policy-making.
Another
update: The National Academy of Sciences has linked mileage
standards with about 2,000 deaths per year. The National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration estimates that every 100-pound reduction
in the weight of small cars increases annual traffic fatalities by as
much as 715.
And what will be gained by the new mileage
standards?
The Natural Resources Defense Council said that the
35 MPG standard would save about one million gallons of gas per day.
So how does that savings balance against the 2,000 fatalities per year
that the National Academy of Sciences says are caused by those same
lighter cars?
For the sake of being utilitarian, let’s
generously assume that the mileage standards reduced the price of
gasoline by $1. That would translate to daily savings of $1
million. Is that savings worth killing more than five people per
day, plus other non-fatal injuries and property damage?
The U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency -- for the purposes of risk assessment
-- values a single human life at $6.9 million dollars. So under
the new mileage standards, it would cost about $35 million per day in
human lives (not including non-fatal injuries) to save $1 million in
gas.
Just makes me want a
1958 Cadillac El Dorado
even more.

Obama Funds Hamas |
Obama has
asked Congress to
let aid to Palestinians continue if
Hamas backers are included in a new
unity government, observers say.
The proposed change in U.S. law
would be necessary because Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, is
designated as a terrorist organization and therefore cannot receive U.S.
aid. But power-sharing negotiations between Hamas and the rival Fatah
faction, which controls the West Bank, may result in a unity Palestinian
government that includes ministers backed by Hamas, the Los Angeles
Times reported.
The White House sought the change as part of a
bill authorizing $840 million for the Palestinian Authority as well as
for rebuilding Gaza after this year’s 22-day Israeli military assault.
The Hamas proposal brought criticism from U.S. lawmakers, the Times
said -- one of whom, U.S. Rep. Mark Steven Kirk, R-Ill., said the move
was akin to supporting a government that "only has a few Nazis in it."
"We don’t want to … bind our hands in the event that such a
(Palestinian unity) agreement is reached, and the government that they
are part of agrees to our principles," U.S. Secretary of State Hillary
Clinton reportedly replied.
So as not to confuse, Hamas is the
Muslim Brotherhood organization who’s sole purpose is the destruction of
Israel -- anyone who thinks otherwise should read Hamas in their own
words via the
Hamas Covenant which lays out their purpose, goals, and
ideology.
In the midst of what is being called the worst economic
crisis since the Great Depression, where our government has created the
largest deficit in history, giving a billion to anyone is insane. But
giving a billion dollars to a self-proclaimed Islamic jihadist group
that has stated the United States as its enemy is beyond insanity, and
it needs to stop. |
Hamas Disses Obama |
According to a key spokesman for the Islamist
Hamas movement, Fawzi Barhoum, Obama's
proposals for a new regional peace initiative are "misleading."
"Obama's statements and messages of hope are meant to mislead global
public opinion regarding the continued existence and conduct of the
racist and extremist Zionist entity," said Fawzi Barhoum, quoted by Israeli daily
Yedioth Ahronoth.
"Therefore, the stance of the American
president does not bode a better future for our people. What we have
seen is a continued development of the Zionist-American relationship at
the expense of our people and our rights," said Barhoum.
He also
called on the West Bank-ruling Palestinian Authority not to renew
negotiations with "the Zionist enemy."
Barhoum concluded by
saying that "any return to the negotiating table presents a grave danger
to the Palestinian people and its interest, and could enable the racist
Jewish state to continue hurting our people." |
Obama Wants To Loan $100 Billion To Global Bailout
Fund |
Obama has
asked Congress to authorize $100 billion in loans
to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to help create a $500 billion
global bailout fund.
If passed by both the Senate and the House,
the bill would allow the IMF to borrow up to $100 billion from the U.S.
and increase the U.S. fiscal contribution to the IMF by $8 billion.
But the move is questioned by some lawmakers who are skeptical about
lending money when the nation’s debt continues to climb -- and who are
concerned about the fact that the U.S. will have to borrow the money at
some point to pay the $100 billion.
"Forcing taxpayers to borrow
another $100 billion from China to bailout foreign countries makes no
sense when we’re already facing record debt," Wesley Denton, spokesman
for Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.), said.
Contributions from the U.S.
and other countries would triple the IMF’s lending power and double its
lending resources for low-income countries.
Japan has already
signed a $100 billion pledge and the European Union, Norway, Canada,
Switzerland, South Korea and Australia have also pledged billions of
dollars for the global bailout.
The IMF is a coalition of 185
countries that assesses the global financial situation and fosters
stability and trade. Although its programs have been criticized in
recent years, managing director Dominique Strauss-Kahn said he is
optimistic about the member-states’ cooperation in this new borrowing
arrangement.
"$500 billion plus the $250 billion we already have
makes -- how do you say that? -- a fire," Strauss-Kahn, former French
finance minister, said. |
Obama's Millions |
Obama may earn
millions from taxpayer-funded
schools in his new book deal.
Five days before taking the oath of
office, President-elect Barack Obama signed a book deal with Crown
Publishing Group to publish a version of his best-selling book, "Dreams
from My Father", aimed at middle school and young adult age groups. Obama would receive a $500,000 advance payment against royalties, plus
ongoing royalty payments. Some in the media have questioned the
propriety of this deal from the angle that Obama might be unduly
influenced by Bertelsmann AG, the German based media publishing empire
which owns Random House, which is the parent company of Crown
Publishing.
But there is a far larger dynamic at work. Random
House and Crown are interested in selling books. And most middle and
high school students do not buy lots of books, but the schools they
attend do. So we presume that Crown Publishing will primarily pitch the
book to schools along with libraries.
The real issue then becomes
the tremendous influence that Obama now enjoys over the
spending plans of thousands of school districts which just received
$44.5 Billion from the Stimulus Bill plus additional billions in the
Omnibus Spending Bill, both of which Obama signed.
When Random
House marketing professionals call on school districts and the
state-level education departments to place the book, they will more
likely be treated as purveyors of hope than annoying salespersons.
In addition, the teacher unions, such as the National Education
Association, supported Obama overwhelmingly during the past election as
they did the Democratic candidates for House and Senate seats, and the
additional federal dollars the schools received in a time of need will
not be forgotten.
The current version of Obama's book is already
targeted for use by high school students according to the Random House
website, and the abridged, easy-to-read version should be an even easier
sell. Students will also appreciate the shorter version as they write
their book reports.
I'll say!
I tried to read it -- twice!
-- I really tried -- it was too, too much for me. |
