New UBB(tm) 6.0 Installation - UNIX Server

Note on uploading files: All files must be uploaded in ASCII (text for Mac users) EXCEPT files that end in .jpg or .gif that are in your non-CGI directory.

1.	Upload all files in the cgi-bin folder of the zip file into the directory you will be using for your UBB(tm) CGI files. Permissions for all of these files and your CGI directory must be set to 755 (Unix).

*Special note for mod_perl: You must open cp.cgi and ultimatebb.cgi in a text editor and uncomment (remove the # from the front of the line) lines 24 and 28.

2.	Upload the contents of the variables folder from your zip file into your UBB(tm) CGI directory. Permissions for all of these files must be set to 777 (Unix).

3.	Create a Members directory and place the contents of the Members folder in the zip file file into that directory. Permissions for this directory and the file named members_test.cgi must be set to 777 (Unix). If you can place this directory above the webroot, do so.

4. Create a directory named ubb for your UBB(tm) non-CGI files. Set permissions on this directory to 777(Unix). Upload all files (including the subdirectories shown) in the noncgi zip file folder into this directory. Special permissions on these files are not needed.

5.	Check Perl path for these three files: ultimatebb.cgi, cp.cgi, and ubb_upgrade.cgi. None of the other cgi files requires a Perl path. If you are unsure of your server's Perl path but you have shell access from the prompt type: whereis perl If you do not have shell access, consult your host's support pages or ask their support department.

You can test your permissions now by uploading ubb6_test.cgi (located in the help directory of your zip file) in ASCII to your UBB(tm) CGI directory and running the tests. There is more documentation on this file located in the help directory readme file.

6.	You must now set up your board by typing http://www.yourdomainhere.com/url/to/cgi/cp.cgi in your browser. You will see setup instructions and several fields of information to fill in and submit. If you have difficulty finding your paths, use the system environmentals link or ask your system administrator for help.

The UBB(tm) software may have your paths and URLs already filled in. They are usually correct but please check them; this will save you some time.

7.	After you have correctly submitted the basic configuration properly, you will be greeted with a screen that tells you so and asks you to log into your control panel to complete your setup. Click on the link that says "click here."

8.	Before you can log into the control panel you must first create your administrator login. Look for the line above the login box that says "Please set up your admin profile by clicking here." Click on the "click here" link. Fill in all of the data fields and click submit. Review your profile and make any changes needed. Close this window now and you should see the original control panel login window.

9.	Enter the username and password for the administrator you just created and click the "Submit Identification Now" button. Welcome to your new control panel!

10.	You must now review and configure all of the Primary Settings. Run your mouse over the Primary Settings box and you should receive a menu of 11 items. Read, review, and set all of the Primary Settings carefully and in order top to bottom. You will be prompted after each screen if you forgot something. The Configurations Settings screen should already be accurate; you had to set these to access the control panel.

11.	Your board is now set up and functional. You can continue to navigate around the control panel, make forum settings changes, customize your Wordlet(tm) text, and review the rest of the UBB(tm) features or you can visit your board by clicking the link in the top right that says "forum home."

12.	UBB(tm) 6.0 has two new URLs for the control panel and board. To access the board, use ultimatebb.cgi. To access your control panel, use cp.cgi.
