If this program works in your PC, complete the request.txt file included in this package and send to banpaia@inoccent.com. The banpaia team apreciates your info. --------------------------------------------------------------- Most up to date information about this software is available from http://www.banpaia.com To email BanpaiA team: banpaia@banpaia.com Authors ------- Az and Registraktor Contributors ------------ This software contains code by several contributors. In addition several other persons have given useful suggestions. The following is a list of major contributors. (I could have forgotten some names.) Dkid Linux version corrector Otto DOS version coder (hey Otto comming soon?) DrRetro FVC exporter TvMaN Translation and all #cellular people for beta test Program Description ------------------- BanpaiA is the first DDI (digital data interpreter) for monitoring cellular traffic in AMPS/NAMPS/DAMPS AND ETACS cellular networks using a radio scanner + sound card, no extra hardware or modified cellulars needed. The input of the BanpaiA is an audio signal like that from a radio scanner connected to a sound card. This first BETA release is designed for monitoring REVERSE CHANNEL and getting info such as MIN/ESN from the data channel. The program uses BCH encoding crc checking for validation of the data. Note: In some states of USA and other countries these actions are illegal. The authors do not have any responsabilities for your actions. Be careful! Look at Kevin... System requirements ------------------- You need a 486DX or better to run the Linux/Win95 version. At this time the system requirements are NOT fully tested because this is the first beta release for public distributions. The software was designed in a 486 DX2 120mhz / 32mb ram / Sound Blaster 16 complatible sound card, and worked fine in this configuration. The ratio of capture packets is 9/10 in Win95 version and 5/10 in Linux version. You DON'T need full duplex sound card or equivalent, but if your sound card is better, the capture ratio will be better. This is very important in the Linux version, see below. The scanner ----------- You need a FM reciver for 834.000 mhz to 880.000 mhz aprox. You also need a direct discriminator ouput. For this project I use a ICOM PCR-1000 scanner and I obtain very good results. Some people use a Pro-2004, Pro 2006 and Pro 34 discriminator tapped scanner. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- INSTALATION NOTES ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Scanner tuning ONLY FOR AMPS/DAMPS! ----------------------------------- (ETACS HELPS IN THE NEXT BANPAIA RELEASE) This are the most important item in the use of BanpaiA. First you set the scanner on 879.990 mhz FM (channel #333). Set the step to 30khz (if it is posible) and check in the listed frecuencies for the most powerful signaling. You will hear "frrrfrrrfrr". Look at the level and notice that it is the strongest signal. Look at the table and set the scanner to the RVC freq. Connect the discriminator output of your scanner to the line in on the sound card. TABLE FOR PAIRS IN SYSTEM "A" Look for strongest signal (FVC): Set to (RVC): Channel: 879.540 Mhz 834.540 Mhz Chan 0318 879.570 Mhz 834.570 Mhz Chan 0319 879.690 Mhz 834.690 Mhz Chan 0323 879.720 Mhz 834.720 Mhz Chan 0324 879.750 Mhz 834.750 Mhz Chan 0325 879.780 Mhz 834.780 Mhz Chan 0326 879.810 Mhz 834.810 Mhz Chan 0327 879.840 Mhz 834.840 Mhz Chan 0328 879.870 Mhz 834.870 Mhz Chan 0329 879.900 Mhz 834.900 Mhz Chan 0330 879.930 Mhz 834.930 Mhz Chan 0331 879.960 Mhz 834.960 Mhz Chan 0332 879.990 Mhz 834.990 Mhz Chan 0333 TABLE FOR PAIRS IN SYSTEM "B" Look for strongest signal (FVC): Set to (RVC): Channel: 880.020 Mhz 835.020 Mhz Chan 0334 880.050 Mhz 835.050 Mhz Chan 0335 880.080 Mhz 835.080 Mhz Chan 0336 880.110 Mhz 835.110 Mhz Chan 0337 880.140 Mhz 835.140 Mhz Chan 0338 880.170 Mhz 835.170 Mhz Chan 0339 880.200 Mhz 835.200 Mhz Chan 0340 880.230 Mhz 835.230 Mhz Chan 0341 880.260 Mhz 835.260 Mhz Chan 0342 880.290 Mhz 835.290 Mhz Chan 0343 880.320 Mhz 835.320 Mhz Chan 0344 880.350 Mhz 835.350 Mhz Chan 0345 880.380 Mhz 835.380 Mhz Chan 0346 880.410 Mhz 835.410 Mhz Chan 0347 Windows 95 setup ---------------- Win95 version is to easy to install. Make a dir on your drive and put these files in it. Put the output from the discriminator tap of the scanner into the LINE IN of the sound card. If your card does not have LINE IN use the MIC connector. Set the sound mixer in the correct input (LINE IN or MIC). Set the volume level to the middle of it range. Run banpaia.exe and look in the "input level". The signaling must be good in the 1/3 part of the meter. When the signal appears, the program will decode the pairs and put the info in the history window. All data is loged in a file named "getitwin.log" in the runing dir. Normaly I dont have problems in the windows version. If you have problems check the mixer for another volume level and re-run banpaia. Linux setup ----------- THE LINUX SETUP IS MOST DIFICULT. IF YOU ARE DUMB, USE THE WIN95 VERSION Linux version uses the /dev/dsp sound device to get the data. This device is created by the kenrnel. To check if your sound card works type: # cat /dev/sndstat If your sound card works you should see this or similar: OSS/Linux 3.8.1q (C) 4Front Technologies 1997 License serial number: N02622165 Kernel: Linux panic 2.0.33 #8 Tue Apr 21 22:24:54 ARST 1998 i486 Card config: SoundBlaster at 0x220 irq 7 drq 1 OPL-2/OPL-3 FM at 0x388 Audio devices: 0: Sound Blaster Pro (8 BIT ONLY) (3.2) This sound device is programed by a company called 4Front Technologies "OSS" This device is SHIT! and does not work good. The OSS company has a "comercial" version of the /dev/dsp device. I think the comercial version obtains the best results but is not much better. I obtain best results by using a Sound Blaster 16 (original no PnP). The program works with other cards (SB-PRO, clones etc) but you loose too many pairs. If you live in a city with lots of traffic, this should not be a problem. Normaly you should get 40/150 pairs a day. In the win95 version you get 200/300 pairs. For info about the OSS drivers look in http://www.4front-tech.com/ossfree If your /dev/sndstat and /dev/dsp work fine you need run ./banpaia and the program will start decoding data. If your terminal does not support colors type: export TERM=ansi IMPORTANT 1: You need a "mixer" to set the input source and level. Get the file from the banpaia web page you need to test the program in different levels and input (mic/line in) to obtain best results. Linux is a multitasking operating system. The program needs high recurses to work. Dont use X windows or other big programs or banpaia wont decode anything. If you have problems run: ./banpaia -test If in the screen apears "0101011101010011111010101010" the program runs ok. If you see only "00000000000" or "111111111111" you have mixer or conection problems. All capture info is loged in a file called "banpaia.log" in the working dir. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the first public distribution of the BanpaiA project, The beta releases have many bugs. The banpaia team apreciates your comments and sugestions.
