This 'n' That - By Rocky

Well hello friends.

Here it is December and another year is gone. We've seen the completion of the card swap but the list of new products keeps growing and so do the rumors and scams. There appears to be 4 products out there now the 3M plastic, Clone plastic, Combo card and DDT card.

The majority of the 3M plastic were ECM'ed November 21, a true status of the other cards depends on who you talk with. I still have not seen any of the fixes personally. There is talk of a battery type card being available after the first of the year. The two best places to talk to people about the fixes are the DB1 radio show and Zorac’s radio show. Both of these can be found on the Internet. The DB1 show can be accessed from the Satellite Watch News home page, http://www.oscoda.net/dmorgand/ or from the Discount Satellite home page at http://www.compusmart.ab.ca/discsat/ or http://www.discountsat.com/. JackDaniels at Discount Satellite is our site host for the DB1 show and has the most recent show listed as DB1 Live and the previous week as DB1 Old. The Live version is live most Wednesday nights with the tape version going up on the site within 2 hours after the completion of the show.

Zorac’s show can be found at http://www.grit.net/talkshows.html . This is part of the grit net that is used for the IRC channels.

The current version of RealAudio is 5B. The current version of Internet Explorer is 4 some-thing, depends on who modified it last. The current version of Netscape explorer is 4.04 and is well worth the upgrade. It is also nice to have the Internet Explorer on your system due to the sites that only use Explorer like the StarTrek sight. I purchased the upgrade for RealAudio and was surprised by a software offering on their page called Q. The Q software enhances audio, especially RealAudio. It has a expander, mono to stereo converter and 3D expansion, all this for around 12 dollars is a great deal.

Since I don’t have any hardware reviews and I know the readers will be getting new computer toys for Christmas I am putting together a list of support sites on the net. These sites will allow you to get drivers and technical support for your computer products. This list will be printed in the January ‘98 issue.I hope this helps and until next year Merry Christmas to all.
