There's some weird shit going down with decoding radio data signals. After
the arrest of Bill Cheeks by the Secret Service yesterday many people are
very nervous as to what will come next.
Both WinFlex & PocFlex, windows/dos pocsag/flex/golay decoders have pulled
the software as both developers feel as if they're going to be under
serious legal fire from Motorola. WinMDT also pulled it's software, most
likely due to the recent busts. Interesting that Motorola developed and
owns the patent on both flex/reflex and mdc4800 (mdt).
Here is a mirror of the latest version of some of the MDT decoding
software. You better grab it now before it too disappears.

With the rush to press we missed this link yesterday but here is Bill
Cheeks web site. Lots of good info there that may disappear soon.

Not like this hasn't made it around the net a few hundred times already
but if anyone still does not have a copy and is interested here is the

This is a very interesting article on how viruses can actually benefit the
computing industry. It gives a brief history of the first virus in Xerox's
PARC system as proof, as the "worm" helped forward the PC's development.
Including referances to
Shockwave Rider by John Bruner, one of the first true cyberpunk novels
and one of my personal all time favorite books.

Internet Security Systems, an Atlanta based firm, is seeking 'good
hackers' from Australia to help in detecting flawed systems for its newly
created 'X-Force'. Ethics, patience and years of experience are among the
qualities being sought. I would like to know how a help wanted ad turns
into a full blown news article?

The Boston Globe has a published a fairly decent article on the rise and
spread of Hacktivism with quotes from f0bic of Team Sploit. The quality of
this article is a welcome change for the Globe compared to the usual
drivel they publish.

I have been sitting on this for a few days but didn't really want to give
credence to drivel such as this. CNN has gone and devoted an entire
section to hackers and hacking. To be fair some of it is actually
OK, however most of it.... If you have better things to do today don't
waste your time on this one. Why? Because it is nothing more than one big
advertisement by IBM disguised as news.

Futurama
Yesterday we reported a rumor that during the opening credits of Futurama,
the new cartoon show on FOX, a sign appeared in the lower left hand corner
that said "DEF-CON Cult of the Dead Cow". While no one has yet been able
to provide us with a high quality graphic to prove this one person claimed
that it said "DEF-CON Kills Owls Dead". If you are truly curious you
should go to the Matt Groening online chat tonight and ask him.
