Demo
(shareware, limited
functionality)
Registered users
(these updates won't
work without a registered copy of the full version)
As a registered DACARS user you may wish to download the latest AIRCRAFT.DBF file to use with DACARS. This file contains all aircraft equipped with ACARS. It is maintained by Nick Birrel. To use it in DACARS unzip the file to your DACARS directory (propably C:\DACARS) overwriting the existing AIRCRAFT.DBF. Start DACARS and re-index by pressing <F1> on startup, then <Alt-R>.
DACARS version 1.2 is a demonstration version of DACARS. It analyzes logfiles and presents a list of all unique combinations of flightnumber and registration. This list can be sorted on either time received, registration mark or flightnumber.
It has several functions disabled:
Like the registered version it's compatible with Airmaster 2.0, 3.0, 2000, AEA, KRacars and Wacars. DACARS uses the specific Airmaster type message layout, if your software is able to create that type of output DACARS will work. If this version works for your system the registered version will work as well.
2.0(h) is a major bugfix. In earlier versions not all messages were displayed for different registrations on the same flightnumber (e.g. bizz-jets, which most of the time use GS0001). This problem is solved in this version.
If you want to upgrade to 2.0(h) download the file and unzip it in your DACARS directory. A new DACARS.EXE will be placed there.
Don't download this update if you are not a registered 2.0 user, you won't be able to use it with the demo copy.
2.0(i) is a minor bugfix. DACARS gave an errormessage when a directory named "test" existed in the root or in the DACARS directory. When you don't have problems with configuring directories you don't have to upgrade to this version.
If you want to upgrade to 2.0(i) download the selfextracting file and run it in your DACARS directory. A new DACARS.EXE will be placed there.
Don't download this update if you are not a registered 2.0 user, you won't be able to use it with the demo copy.
DACARS 2.1 is a major update. It has some new features:
To use this version:
DACARS 2.1a is a bugfix for 2.1
In 2.1 routes where not extracted from the messages when the information was in the first message. This is now solved. Also the ICAO/Airport file is modified a bit, the entries with ICAO code '????' are deleted, the TOWN field now only shows the town, the Airport name is in the NOTES field. The COUNTRY field is not there anymore.
You can only use this version if your current version is 2.1!
To use this version:
DACARS 2.1b is an update for 2.1
This version is a very small (but important) update for version 2.1(a). The file with the message definitions can now handle three positions for the FROM and TO column, meaning you can use route data from the entire message now, not only from the first line.
To use this version:
The version number on the screen will still be 2.1(a), it's in the EXE file which is not changed.
Warning:
Your message definitions will be lost in the installation. You have to re-enter them with DACARS, or append them manually from the backup copy with a dBASE like program. Don't forget to re-index if you manipulate the database without DACARS.
DACARS 2.1d is an update for 2.1(b)
Another new version yes indeed! The start field in the file LOCATION.DBF is now 9 characters wide, on special request of Hans Biere. He also made his 94 message definitions available, they are included in the zipfile. Also 2 changes in the program itself: Rene Hesse wanted to see the route on the main screen, which is a good idea I think, and there is a progress indicator bar showing when processing a logfile now.
To use this version:
Warning:
Your message definitions will be lost in the installation. You have to re-enter them with DACARS, or append them manually from the backup copy with a dBASE like program. Don't forget to re-index if you manipulate the database without DACARS.
DACARS 2.1(e) is an update for 2.1(d)
This new version has a few minor changes:
To use this version:

Your message definitions will be lost in the installation. You have to re-enter them with DACARS, or append them manually from the backup copy with a dBASE like program. Don't forget to re-index if you manipulate the database without DACARS.
DACARS 2.1(f) is an update for 2.1(e)
One bug is solved in this version. Messages like the one below:

Caused DACARS to add a flight like this:
13/07/1998 ¦ 09/08/1998 ¦ SSAGE A ¦ DM
The line of '----------' was assumed to be the beginning of the next message. This problem also caused entries in the allheard file with the date field emtpy. The new 2.1(f) version solves both problems.
To use version 2.1(f):
Databases will not be altered by the new version.
Download version 2.1(f)
DACARS 2.2
This version has a split screen option, which allows you to view the list with logs and the message content simultaniously. To use this version download the zipfile, extract it in your dacars directory (overwrite existing files). The split screen option can be set in the configuration screen (F1 at startup). If you don't want the split-screen just choose 'Not' and DACARS will look as it allways did. This update will not do anything with your databases. The configuration file DACARS.CFG has changed so you may need to reset your configuration options. Have a look at the screenshots section to view some snapshots of the new option.
In 2.2a you can browse through the message content in split screen mode, using the <Tab> key. <Shift>+<Tab> returns to the first page. Also a minor bug was fixed, when the message content reached 50k (for one flight) an 'out of memory' error occurred. This problem seems to occur only with 2 Air Canada Airbus A320s.
DACARS 2.2(c) is a minor update for 2.2(a). The internal errorhandling system is improved so now nice and clear error messages appear in stead of the single textlines on the first line of the screen. Also I added a check if the CLIPPER=F27 variable is set. Finally the routes are shown again when in (H)orizontal split mode. There are no functional changes.
Oops... DACARS 2.2(c) contains a serious bug... Only one message is shown for each flight, or even none at all. Sorry for this, solved in this new version.
Main new feature of this update that DACARS will now read Airmaster 3.0 files in the "NO LABEL" format. This format doesn't show labels like "Aircraft reg.""Message label:" etc. This format takes less diskspace. In theory DACARS should give a better performance, but I haven't been able to measure it. I also made a technical improvement on the blocksize. DACARS now reads the log files in 512 byte blocks, which was 2048 bytes before. Again in theory this should mean better performance as only 1/4 of I/O read actions are done. In real life however there is no measurable improvement as SMARTDRV does all this work for you (load it manually in DOS or Windows 3.1, it's laoded automatically in Windows 95 or higher).
On the database side I included a new IATA.DBF file, this contains more then 1000 IATA 2-letter codes, which is used for the detailed information. This file was kindly made available for DACARS by Markus Buttinger. If you carefully updated your own file in DACARS don't install this database. If not (you're lazy, like me) unzip this file as well (re-index after copying any new database file by pressing F1 after startup and then ALT-R to re-index).
Read the README.TXT file before installing.
Download version 2.3[DCRS23.ZIP - MISSING]
A bugfix. In 2.3(a) message content shorter than 20 characters was not recognized by DACARS. This is solved now. To install just unzip the DACARS.EXE file to your DACARS directory. An example of such a message:
2 .OO-SFQ SA 9 S95A SN0564
0EV093159VS
-----------------------------------------------------------[19/05/2000
11:32]
13 aug 2000. Minor bugfix. When in split mode "None" or "Horizontal" the on screen route information was not updated when changing records by pressing the first letter of either the flightnumber or the registration. This is solved now. It's again just a new EXE file which must be copied to the DACARS directory.
